He says, among other things, that e-cigarettes are a status marker in some teenage circles.

"They are considered 'a little nicer' than, for example, snus and regular cigarettes by some," says Olle Granath.

The purchase age for so-called vapes – e-cigarettes of a model that is not refilled and that has a taste of, among other things, fruit and sweets – is 18 years, and thus not something that students in secondary school can buy in stores themselves.

Most high school students who want vapes usually get hold of them anyway, through other channels, says Olle Granath. But because they don't want their parents to know that they got them, in many cases they trade them instead of buying them.
