At Skavsta Airport outside Nyköping, Norrbotten Air Force Base is in place with several JAS planes and associated maintenance troops. They are based in the forest and on a secluded part of the airfield where the fighter planes are being prepared for the next operation.

On Friday, a charging moment was shown to local politicians, the management of Skavsta Airport and senior military chiefs.

"This is a shining example of total defence cooperation. On how we, the Swedish Armed Forces and the civilian airport Skavsta, work together, says Tommy Pettersson, deputy chief of the Air Force.

During the week, there has been a loud roar over Nyköping and around the airport as the fighter planes take off and land several times a day.

– I hope that the locals are patient with us, we know that we sound, but we do it for the good of Sweden, says Tommy Pettersson.
