With this law, the Polish government wants to expand the possibilities of "effectively influencing modern terrorist threats."

"We are talking about providing an opportunity for the Polish military to respond to threats associated with attacks on the energy infrastructure that is located at sea, primarily on the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline," RIA Novosti quoted the Cabinet of Ministers as saying.

In the event of a terrorist threat, the Minister of Defense proposes to give the opportunity to make a decision on the sinking of an enemy ship or floating object.

The authorities stressed that such a decision is intended only for exceptional situations.

At the beginning of November last year, the gas receiving terminal of the Baltic Pipe gas pipeline in Denmark was put into operation.
