The concept, to be able to choose what and when you want to eat, is called fleximat and is Region Sörmland's meal system. It was introduced in 2020 at Nyköping Hospital and is currently available at the county's three hospitals.

"Region Sörmland's goal is to become Sweden's healthiest county and focus on person-centred care, and that means that we must create a meal that focuses on the patient and the patient's needs," says Niklas Tranemyr, Head of the Meals Unit in Region Sörmland.

New for the children's department

Last out to introduce fleximat is Mälarsjukhuset in Eskilstuna, which rolled it out on Wednesday. The system applies to all patients, but as it is the only hospital with a children's ward, a completely new children's menu has also been developed.

"We have had both the paediatric ward and the paediatric patients involved in the development of this menu," says Niklas Tranemyr.
