"A ban on the use of unmanned aerial vehicles in order to ensure the safety of residents of the region and critical infrastructure facilities was introduced in the Sverdlovsk region before the removal of the special regime established by the federal authorities in the region," the administration's press service said in a statement.

The exception was drones that are used by law enforcement agencies, executive authorities of the region and local governments, as well as enterprises that fulfill state defense orders.

The head of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy, Alexander Khinshtein, previously sent appeals to Transport Minister Vitaly Savelyev and the head of the Federal Air Transport Agency Alexander Neradko with a request to introduce a temporary moratorium on the use of drones.
