The man is suspected of having purchased personal data via a digital online marketplace, which provided illegally acquired personal data. Data that is often threaded in via naïve and ignorant users.

"We are potential victims of litigation at any time when we are dealing with digital operations. Through our smartphone, our wireless network or via our smart TV," says Ola Gripö, investigator.

Competition for skills

To try to keep up with developments, there is therefore a national investment in cybercrime. At the Bergslagen police region, the special unit has grown by about 500 precents, since its inception in August last year. And recruitment continues – in fierce competition.

"We are struggling with the private sector, which offers an average of SEK 20,000 more per month. We also have competition from other authorities, which we should not have because we have to protect tax money. But that is the reality.
