Two days after the announcement of a cyberattack which affected the two main operators which manage third-party payment for mutual insurance companies, the Paris prosecutor's office decided to open an investigation into one of the most massive leaks ever observed In France. The investigations were entrusted to the Cybercrime Brigade. 

The Paris prosecutor's office has opened an investigation into the cyberattacks of two third-party payment operators, Viamedis and Almerys, which could constitute one of the most massive data leaks observed in France, he said on Friday.

33 million French people affected

The investigations follow complaints from the two service providers, said the prosecution's anti-cybercrime section, contacted by AFP. The investigations, entrusted to the Cybercrime Brigade of the judicial police, relate to the offenses of breach of an automated data system, fraudulent collection of personal data and concealment of a crime.

More than 33 million French people are affected by a data breach, according to the National Commission for Information Technology and Liberties (Cnil). According to a press release on Wednesday from the digital privacy watchdog, "the data concerned are, for policyholders and their families, marital status, date of birth and social security number, the name of the health insurer as well as the guarantees of the contract entered into".
