Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov attended a meeting of the United Nations Security Council and claimed that the United States was abandoning diplomacy and worsening the situation in Ukraine, while Western and other countries harshly condemned Russia for violating the UN Charter and invading Ukraine militarily, damaging the trust of the United Nations.

Russia, which holds the UN Security Council presidency this month, hosted an open debate on the theme of "Multilateralism through the Protection of the UN Charter" on the 24th, chaired by Foreign Minister Lavrov, who is visiting New York.

First, Secretary-General Guterres condemned Russia, stating that "Russia's invasion of Ukraine in violation of the United Nations Charter and international law has caused immense suffering and devastation to its citizens," and reiterated his call for a peaceful solution through diplomatic means.

After this, Foreign Minister Lavrov said, "The world is in the same or more dangerous situation as it was during the Cold War, and the situation is worsening as Washington and its allies demand to abandon diplomacy and clarify relations on the battlefield, and trust in multilateralism has been lost."

In response, a series of opinions from Europe, the United States, and other countries condemned Russia for violating the United Nations Charter and invading Ukraine militarily.

Among them, U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Thomas Greenfield accused Russia of invading Ukraine and shattering the very foundation of the UN Charter and all the values we hold dear.

In addition, Ambassador to the United Nations Ishikane of the Japan also stated, "The exercise of the veto power has paralyzed the Security Council and damaged its credibility," and both sides exchanged accusations.
