Police said they came under fire while in their vehicle and continued driving until they reached a nearby location where a police force was present. The occupying forces sealed off the area, conducted search and combing operations and surrounded several buildings in search of the shooter.

The Israeli police surrounded a residential building in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, where the weapon used by the shooter was found.

Injuries in Jenin

Eight Palestinians were injured by Israeli gunfire on Tuesday during clashes in Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank, while activists circulated pictures of the moment of shooting at Israelis in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood of Jerusalem.

Palestinian health said the injuries were in the periphery. Israeli media quoted security sources as confirming the arrest of two young men during the military operation under the pretext that they were planning to carry out an attack on Israeli targets.

An Israeli special force infiltrated the outskirts of the camp and surrounded several homes amid armed clashes.

Jenin is a stronghold of Palestinian armed factions. Repeated raids by Israeli forces have led to clashes with civilian youths or local militants in which at least 25 Palestinians have been killed in the camp and the city this year.
