Students from the middle school at Rönneshytta school had on Tuesday dressed in the small plastic bags with a large selection of flowers in them. Few slipped by without at least being asked if a Mayflower would fit.

"You should have a good attitude, be nice to people, and if they say no, don't give up," says Eddie Hermansson, who is in fourth grade.

By 14 p.m. in the afternoon, he had already sold May flowers for SEK 400.

Waiting for more applications from those in need

The local Majblomme association in Askersund has great hope for this year's vendors, backed by the pandemic effects of previous years and an ongoing economic crisis that so far only seems to have opened the door.

The money that comes in goes to financially vulnerable families with children in the municipality who apply for funds to gild the children's leisure time.

"We haven't noticed it much yet, but we expect a lot more applications now. We are simply counting on that, says Ulla Neander, chairman of Askersunds Majblommeförening.
