One Sunday in March, 96-year-old Karl-Johan Bårring was waiting for his daily delivery of food from the municipality's nursing home. A meal he considered the highlight of the day. But there was never any food.

"At first I was wondering because they hadn't notified me, but then I found out through the staff who arrived later in the day that the municipality had decided not to deliver any more food," says Karl-Johan Bårring.

May solve the food in another way

The cancelled food delivery from the nursing home Klockaregården affects about ten people in Svenljunga municipality, something that Borås Tidning was the first to report on.

The change in aid to Karl-Johan means that the responsibility for ensuring that he has food on the table now lies with his daughter.

"My daughter is kind and takes care of it. I get five servings at once from her and keep in the fridge. But the last portion is not as fresh and nice as the first.

"Every break in solitude is positive"

For Karl-Johan, the meal was not only about food, but was also an opportunity to break the loneliness he experiences.

"Every break in solitude is positive, it was a highlight. But they don't seem to have any sense of that, I feel.

According to them, the suspension of food deliveries in Svenljunga municipality is due to the discovery of too much generosity. According to Social Services Manager Sandra Larewall, there is a need to focus more on fulfilling the main task in elderly care than on food deliveries.
