The United States said Tuesday that there is no evidence to suggest that Egypt is supplying lethal weapons to Russia, after a US document believed to be leaked claimed that Cairo secretly planned to supply Moscow with missiles.

John Kirby, the U.S. National Security Council's strategic communications coordinator, told reporters: "We haven't seen any indication that Egypt is providing lethal weapons and capabilities to Russia."

The Washington Post revealed that one of the leaked secret US documents stated that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi ordered the production of 40,<> missiles to be secretly shipped to Russia, in addition to plans to supply Moscow with artillery shells and gunpowder to help it in its war on Ukraine.

The document, dated Feb. 17, said Sisi ordered officials to keep missile production and shipments secret "to avoid problems with the West."

On the other hand, the "Washington Post" quoted Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid as saying that Egypt's position is based on non-intervention in the war in Ukraine, and maintaining an equal distance with the two sides, as he put it.

In turn, the Russian presidency said – in a statement – that the reports of the US media that talked about Egypt's planning to supply Russia with thousands of missiles, is a new lie that is unfounded, and the Kremlin added that a new military mobilization in the country is out of the question.

The Pentagon said it was working to identify the source of the leak of classified documents detailing the US and NATO's strategy to support Ukraine in the face of the Russian attack, which were published more than a week ago on social media.

According to The New York Times, these documents include the frequency at which Ukrainian forces use Himars munitions, the timeline for weapons delivery, and training provided by the West to the Ukrainian military.

Experts said the documents appeared to be correct, but some were modified to better reflect the Russian situation, particularly by minimizing Russian casualties.

According to the leaks, Kiev is in the process of forming 12 new brigades, including 9 brigades trained and equipped by the United States, according to the New York Times.
