Beijing, 4 Apr (Xinhua) -- When participating in a voluntary tree-planting activity in the capital on the morning of 4 April, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, state president, and chairman of the Central Military Commission, stressed that people work hard in spring and plant green is just the right time. At this time of year, China gradually sets off a wave of afforestation and greening from south to north. Today, we are participating in the tree planting together, which is to call on everyone to take action, not only to plant green patches in the vast land of the motherland, but also to sow green seeds in the hearts of the broad masses of the people, to welcome the spring of hope and build a beautiful China together.
The land on the outskirts of Beijing, spring rain fluttering, spring is full of spirit. At about 10:30 a.m., party and state leaders Xi Jinping, Li Qiang, Zhao Leji, Wang Huning, Cai Qi, Ding Xuexiang, Li Xi, Han Zheng and others rode by car to the tree-planting site in Dongba Central Park, Chaoyang District, Beijing, and participated in voluntary tree planting with the people in the capital.
The tree planting site is located in the East Dam Central Park at the confluence of the North Little River and the Ba River, covering an area of about 300 acres. The plot was originally the site of Dongfeng Village in Dongba Township, and after relocation and environmental remediation, an ecological space featuring biodiversity is being planned. In the Dongba Central Park, the capital's cadres and young pioneers who participated in the voluntary tree planting are working feverishly.
Seeing that the general secretary was coming, everyone greeted the general secretary one after another. Xi Jinping put on a raincoat, picked up a shovel and walked to the tree-planting site, and joined the ranks of the tree-planting crowd with responsible comrades of Beijing Municipality and the State Forestry and Grassland Administration.
Shoveling soil to build pits, cultivating cofferdams, lifting water for irrigation... Xi Jinping successively planted saplings such as oil pine, Xifu begonia, national acacia, persimmon tree, and red ruimu, and the scene was a busy scene and a warm atmosphere. While working, Xi Jinping taught children how to plant trees, and talked with the children about their study and life, asking them how old their parents are, whether they have arranged biology classes in primary school, how much they know about plants, whether they have much homework and more extracurricular tutoring, and advised them to love labor from an early age and achieve all-round development of moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor. Xi Jinping stressed that children's education, like planting trees, must be erected at the beginning, otherwise it will grow crooked.
After planting the trees, the primary and secondary school students and cadres gathered around. Xi Jinping told everyone that China's artificial afforestation scale is the largest in the world, and it is still continuing to afforest. China has contributed to the greening of the earth and the improvement of global climate change, and the Chinese people have contributed indispensably. Forests are reservoirs of water, money, grain and carbon. Afforestation is a very meaningful thing, a noble cause that contributes to the present and benefits the future, and it must be done consistently and continuously.
Xi recalled participating in the process of planting trees. He said: This is the eleventh time I have participated in tree-planting activities since I became general secretary of the party, counting the number of times I have participated in the central committee, and I have participated in tree-planting activities during my work in Fujian, Zhejiang, and Shanghai. He said to the primary and secondary school students present, when you also become parents, let your children and grandchildren continue to plant trees, and continue to do it from generation to generation.
Xi Jinping told everyone that I grew up in Beijing, and a lot of my homesickness is related to trees. In the past, the courtyard courtyards of old Beijing would definitely be planted with locust trees, persimmon trees, or begonias, pomegranates, jujube trees, etc. In the past, more willow trees were planted in Beijing, because Beijing is suitable for planting willow trees, and at the same time, attention should be paid to combining the proportion of coniferous and broad-wide forests to make it more in line with the requirements of biological chain and ecological chain. It is necessary to strengthen color on the basis of greening, diversify some colorful tree species, and strive to build a forest city in the whole area to build Beijing into a more beautiful city.
Xi Jinping stressed that at present and for some time to come, green development is a major strategy for China's development. Carrying out voluntary tree planting for the whole people is a vivid practice to promote land greening and build a beautiful China. All regions and departments should organize and carry out voluntary tree planting in light of actual conditions.
