Senegal celebrates the 63rd anniversary of its independence

The Senegalese celebrated this Tuesday the 63rd anniversary of the independence of the country on April 4. This year, the country has returned to the tradition of a large civil and military parade in Dakar after three years of "minimal" ceremony due to the Covid-19 pandemic and construction in the capital. A 2023 edition under the theme "Armed Forces and preservation of natural resources".

The emblematic Place de la Nation, in the heart of the capital, is decorated in the national colors green-yellow-red. It was the civilians, majorettes and students, who opened the ball before the parade of all the military detachments on the Boulevard General de Gaulle. Some 4,000 personnel of the defense and security forces, their vehicles, several formations of fighter planes and helicopters in a foggy sky and in the procession the presentation of the future BRT, the Bus Rapid Transit, which should improve mobility between Dakar and its suburbs.
It was therefore a great "impeccable" parade, according to President Macky Sall, who praised "the level of preparation of the armies to face threats and ensure security and peace in the country".
This holiday reminds us of the history that binds us and obliges us to build on the land of our ancestors the legacy that we must leave to our children.

A celebration that echoes the security priority displayed by the Head of State, whether in terms of maintaining public order, border surveillance, or as part of the fight against the Casamance rebellion of the MFDC. Macky Sall has once again pledged to continue the efforts to equip the Senegalese army.
