Senegal: President Bassirou Diomaye Faye reveals the main directions of his policy
Twenty-four hours after his inauguration, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, 5th and youngest president of Senegal, delivered his first speech to the nation, on the occasion of the 64th anniversary of independence celebrated this Thursday. The opportunity to give the broad guidelines of its policy.

Right on time,
Bassirou Diomaye Faye
spoke from behind his desk during the traditional speech to the nation delivered the day before Independence Day. He announced consultations with a view to taking strong measures regarding the cost of living. But first, he recalled that youth are at the center of his concerns.
“
Education, career information, employment, entrepreneurship for young people and women remain major challenges to overcome. I will make it a high public policy priority, in consultation with the private sector. To this end, we must revisit existing mechanisms, improve and rationalize them so that they better meet the needs of employment and other income-generating activities for young people. To encourage job creation, I intend to rely on a strong private sector because it is supported by the State. Of course, the international private sector will have its full role to play. The Senegalese are brave, but they are tired and expect solutions from us to combat the high cost of living. The question of the cost of living particularly concerns us. It retains all my intention. In the days to come, strong measures will be taken in this direction, after the consultations that I will undertake with the stakeholders concerned.

The new president also mentioned the desire to fundamentally reform the electoral system, following consultations with the political class and civil society: rationalizing political parties and their financing, for example, but also correlating the obtaining of its identity card when registering in the electoral register. Justice reform, another priority project. To “reconcile” this justice with the Senegalese, Bassirou Diomaye Faye promised meetings with the professions in the sector.
But above all, the former tax inspector who became President of the Republic insisted on his desire to establish virtuous governance, particularly with a view to
the upcoming exploitation of
oil and gas resources.

In the quest for a better Senegal for the benefit of all, I will without delay initiate a bold policy of good economic and financial governance, through the relentless fight against corruption, the criminal repression of tax evasion and illicit financial flows , the protection of whistleblowers, the fight against the development of public data and money laundering, processing amnesty and their profit-sharing under the condition of self-denunciation, publication of reports from the IGE, the Court accounts and fraud. Likewise, the exploitation of our natural resources which, according to the Constitution, belongs to the people, will particularly attract the attention of my government.

Bassirou Diomaye Faye reiterated Senegal's openness to friendly countries and partners while recalling that it remains committed to global governance that is "
more just and inclusive with respect for the equal dignity of values, cultures and civilizations.

The Senegalese are still waiting for the new government which could be appointed very soon.
