Winter has not yet released its grip on large parts of Sweden. This can make it extra difficult for those who are going to hit the roads this Easter, as the road conditions can vary.

– Even if it looks good with sun, there will be ice patches in several places, here it is important as a car driver to keep track of it, says Bengt Olsson, press officer at the Swedish Transport Administration.

Particularly busy

Maundy Thursday is expected to be the busiest travel day and there are a number of roads that will be particularly busy. This partly concerns passengers who will drive south on the E22 towards Kalmar and the Öland Bridge. But also to the north.

"To the north, there are a number of roads that will be quite heavily affected. It is the E45 from Gothenburg through Dalsland, Värmland up towards Jämtland. Also the Mälardalen area and Stockholm, as many travelers drive the E4 up.

Although a lot of traffic is expected on the major roads, you should not choose smaller ones. If you have had time to change to summer tires, you should not go out on the roads to the mountains.

"Summer tyres lose their properties at five degrees Celsius. If it is below freezing somewhere it is easy to play away completely and make it fatal.

Track work – scheduled in the timetable

During the Easter weekend, the Swedish Transport Administration will begin track work. But since these have already been planned, they will not lead to sudden changes in train traffic, according to Bengt Olsson.

"They are embedded in the timetable that exists, so there really shouldn't be much difference than what is in the timetable.
