National highway 31 has been subject to accidents for many years.

In September 2021, three young guys died in a collision between Lindshammar and Korsberga in Vetlanda municipality.

On the same stretch as that on Wednesday, another very serious car accident occurred.

Speed cameras in 2022

After the accident in 2021, the Swedish Transport Administration decided to set up six speed cameras between the stretch Vetlanda and Nottebäck.

The speed would also be reduced from 90 km/h to 80 km/h.

But neither speed cameras nor speed reductions have been removed.

Want to measure speed

According to the Swedish Transport Administration, one reason why the speed reduction has not been implemented is that they have been commissioned by the Government to review the work on speed reductions.

The Swedish Transport Administration wants to be able to measure the average speed between different speed cameras.

And on Monday of this week, the Swedish Transport Administration submitted a proposal to the Government where they request a formal government assignment for them and the police to investigate the legal conditions and IT development to make this possible.

In the clip, Eva Lundberg at the Swedish Transport Administration explains why the cameras are delayed and when they come up.
