In central Värnamo, coins are still required to be able to pay your parking fee at any of the municipality's four parking lots. The reason why the machines have not been upgraded is that the politicians have not been able to agree. Some have thought that parking discs are a better alternative than SMS or app payment.

But now, after years of discussions, the municipality may be close to phasing out the coin machines, which Värnamo Nyheter was the first to report.

The Board has hammered

The Technology and Recreation Committee proposes an alternative with app and SMS payment and the possibility to pay by card at least in any car park.

"I'm pleased that we can now finally switch to more modern solutions," says Gottlieb Granberg when he meets SVT's reporter at one of the municipality's coin-operated machines.

"I don't have any coins with me, so I can't pay and park here," he laughs.

Up to the City Council now

However, it is not yet entirely clear that this will be the solution recommended by the board regarding a new payment solution. The issue will first be put on the municipal board's table before it is finally hammered out in the city council.

"But now I think it will be like that," says Granberg.

In the clip above, you hear some motorists in Värnamo react to the fact that it is still only coin payment that applies to the municipal car parks.
