Gothenburg's cross-country riding club needed new riding school horses, and with the current shortage of horses in Sweden, the club needed to expand its choices and therefore sought advice on riding school horses via social media.

There they got tips about an organization in Ukraine.

One thing led to another and now there are four new horses from Ukraine in the stable at the Delsjö area in Gothenburg.

- We want to give the horses some security, a security they haven't had in a year.

Our hope is that they will stay for many years, says Erica Lundqvist, director of operations at Gothenburg's Fältrittklubb.

Collected over SEK 60,000

The project has created great commitment in the club, which has just over 1,000 members.

To finance the project, the club started a fundraiser which currently has over SEK 60,000 according to Erica Lundqvist.

In the return transport back to Ukraine, the club had also collected various different materials and fodder for the horses that remain in the war.

"Hopefully it can ripple the water"

Gothenburg's cross-country riding club is probably the first in the country with a project like this, but even though it took time, Erica Lundqvist is positive about doing it again.

- We hope that this can cause some ripples in the water so that more people, both private individuals and riding schools around the country, can follow us and save more horses.
