Zainab Kahraman, the Turkish woman who was stuck for 104 hours under the rubble, breathed her last, one day after she was rescued from under a collapsed building in southern Turkey and taken to hospital.

A German rescue team pulled Zainab Kahraman, 40, from under the rubble in the town of Qari Khan in southern Turkey, on Friday, and they said at the time that her survival was a "miracle".

"Unfortunately, we just learned that Zainab died in hospital," said Stefan Baer, the leader of the German international search and rescue team.

Zainab's family told Reuters earlier that rescuers arrived two days after the earthquake last Monday.

The German team contacted Zainab - who was far below the rubble - and delivered water to her through a hose.

At one point, they helped her sister up a ladder near her place to talk to her.

And the French Press Agency reported that it took the relief team 50 hours to carve a path through the rubble to reach it, "because the corridor was very narrow."

A member of the rescue team gave additional details, explaining that the woman "was on her stomach for a long time, near her deceased relatives."
