Earlier in January, the board announced that the decision regarding the criticized politicians' fees was being rescinded.

Ann Kajson Carlqvist (M), the chairman of the municipal board, then explained that both the accusations of rigging in the decision-making process, and the criticism that had been made had an impact.

However, she could not say anything about whether the new fees will be lower than the criticized ones.

- But I think we probably learned from the public opinion that exists in Trelleborg, it would surprise me a lot if the new fee preparation comes up with exactly the same proposal, she said then.

Brought in guards

During Monday evening, there was a consensus regarding the decision to lift the increased politicians' fees.

A new remuneration committee has been appointed, which has the task of the next municipal council to decide whether the politicians' remuneration in the municipality should be increased or decreased.

"There is no way back"

Ahead of Monday evening's municipal council, the public's interest was great.

So large that the municipality took security measures on site when Trelleborg citizens gathered for a demonstration in connection with the meeting.

One of those who demonstrated in Folkets Park was Maria Lager.

- I don't think there is a way back.

The trust is already broken, she says.

Kajson Carlqvist: "Not surprised"

Ann Kajson Carlqvist (M) writes in a comment to SVT Nyheter Skåne:

“I am not at all surprised by their arrangements tonight.

They announced this early in the process that they would demonstrate today, so I would probably have been much more surprised if they hadn't been there.

A new fee preparation committee will be appointed tonight and then their work will begin to produce a new proposal for fees that will come up at KF in February."
