As he noted in his material, those observers who initially adhered to the idea “Ukraine will win” continue to be in the illusion - even more manic than before - that a complete victory for Kyiv is possible.

"But no. And the sooner politicians and influencers on both sides of the Atlantic understand this, the sooner we can reach an agreed cessation of hostilities,” he said.

Latham emphasized that the bleaker Ukraine's strategic prospects became, the more "these true believers" felt compelled to invent imaginary paths to total Ukrainian victory, despite increasingly overwhelming evidence that no such path existed.

“Russia is winning the war, and there is little indication that any foreseeable political, economic, tactical or technological development will change this fundamental reality,” he concluded.
