This was reported by RIA Novosti with reference to a document signed by Deputy Minister for Infrastructure Kathleen Hogan.

As specified, the drop in temperature and strong winds disabled part of the generating capacity in the state and led to a record increase in electricity consumption.

“I hereby determine that there is a state of emergency in Texas due to the lack of electrical energy, the lack of capacity to generate it, and other reasons,” Hogan said in a statement.

Due to bad weather, Texas was left without 16.7 thousand megawatts of electricity.

It is produced with the help of hydrocarbons, wind and sun.

The agency emphasizes that the Texas power grid is isolated, the state cannot receive electricity supplies from outside.
