Texas is tightening measures to control the situation on the US-Mexico border, state Governor Greg Abbott said on his page on the social network X.

“Additional National Guard troops and barbed wire fences are being sent to the border in Texas. We are redoubling our efforts to expand the areas in which we will stop illegal entry into Texas,” Abbott said.

According to local authorities, barbed wire fences reduce the flow of illegal migrants by thousands of times.

It is worth noting that the state is implementing its own policy to protect the American border, since the federal authorities are not coping with ensuring its security. In particular, by order of Abbott, the Texas National Guard forces have already been deployed and took control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass on the border with Mexico. At this facility, federal border agents housed illegal immigrants before transporting them for processing.

After announcing the tightening of measures at the border, Abbott said that 15 immigrants were detained by Texas forces in Eagle Pass for “illegal entry” by Texas forces.

Earlier, Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb sent his state's National Guard forces "to assist in the ongoing mission" to secure the border in Texas.

As Abbott said in response to the move, US governors are joining forces to respond to the "Biden crisis" at the border.

“As long as Biden sleeps at the helm, Texas — and America — will hold this line,” he stressed.

Prior to this, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy said his state intends to spend $1 million a month to send 100 National Guardsmen to help Texas resolve the situation at the border.

By the end of Biden's presidency, the number of illegal migrants in the United States will be about 18-19 million people, which will exceed the population of the state of New York, former United States President Donald Trump said on The Dan Bongino Show podcast.

For his part, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that in New York, “illegal immigrants commit crimes and are released from custody.” DeSantis also advocates for strengthening the southern border and has ordered the deployment of battalion-sized National Guard soldiers to Texas.

States versus center

Let us remind you that the Republican governors of 25 American states declared their solidarity with the Texas authorities and accused Joe Biden of unwillingness to resolve the worsening migration crisis.

A number of Republican legislators in the US Congress are also against this policy of the White House. In particular, Republican Senator from Texas Ted Cruz said that Biden and his administration deliberately opened the border and the numbers of arriving illegal immigrants “immediately soared,” reaching 9.6 million. Now the situation is getting worse, and the Democratic mayor of Chicago is already accommodating at the airport “illegal immigrants,” which Cruz regarded as “a waste of taxpayer money.”

On February 3, an “anti-immigration” car rally was held on the US-Mexico border, organized by conservatives to protest the inaction of the White House in the context of the worsening crisis on the southern border.

Joe Biden “encourages illegal immigration” because he is interested in increasing the number of illegal immigrants in the United States and legalizing them to create a “permanent majority - a one-party state,” says SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk.

He said the White House is “rolling out the red carpet” for illegal immigrants “instead of securing the borders.”

"Expansion of autonomy"

As Nikita Danyuk, deputy director of the Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts of RUDN, a member of the Public Chamber of Russia, noted, the tightening of border controls announced by the governor of Texas suggests that local authorities, with the support of other states, “continue to stick to their line” and do not intend to secure the border refuse, despite the diametrically opposite position of the White House.

“Texas and its allies in the form of other southern states are demonstrating their determination to continue to protect the borders, despite the opposition of the central authorities. The local leadership of Texas, in fact, is challenging the federal authorities, who have not been able to resolve the situation,” the expert emphasized in a conversation with RT.

According to Danyuk, in particular, plans to double the number of local National Guard forces at the border indicate a worsening conflict between the leadership of Texas and the federal center, represented in the region by the border service, which was previously actually forced out of Eagle Pass, where migrants were housed before their transportation. and design.

“The state governor has repeatedly hinted that local National Guardsmen could come into direct conflict with representatives of the US Border Service, which reports to the White House,” the analyst noted.

Danyuk also drew attention to the fact that Texas is sending a signal not only to the feds, but also to local Democrats who support Biden’s strategy of open borders for illegal immigrants.

“Already at the moment, millions of dollars have been spent by the Texas authorities on busing illegal immigrants to democratic states that support the influx of immigrants,” the expert noted.

However, these measures are insufficient “without centralized support,” even taking into account assistance from other states, Danyuk believes.

“Without a direct law at the federal level, such an influx of migrants cannot be dealt with simply physically. Although, as we see, many states are ready to send their volunteers to the local National Guard to guard their borders. But the border is very long, and the wall that Trump built was not completely built, so there are many gaps on the border,” the analyst explained.

At the same time, experts agree: Biden needs a migration crisis in order to, with the help of illegal immigrants, that is, potentially new US citizens, “erode the electorate of conservative states.”

“The Texas government understands that the main goal of the Biden administration is to ensure that illegal immigrants eventually receive official status in the United States and are able to vote in the presidential election. Moreover, so that they can find work in those US states in which Republicans traditionally hold a majority. After all, the electorate consisting of migrants will always be grateful for shelter in the United States,” Danyuk noted.

Against this background, analysts do not rule out the worsening of the conflict between local authorities and the center.

“Texas has its own laws, and it could actually declare secession from the States, but this option is unlikely. At least at this stage for sure. However, the expansion of the autonomy of local authorities may well happen,” Danyuk noted.

Americanist, Doctor of Political Sciences Rafael Ordukhanyan holds a similar position. According to him, the opposition of state leadership to the federal government is indeed “to some extent a precursor to the civil war.”

“And we observe these realities in the United States, which indicates the weakness of the central government, which does not control the situation on the border and does not fulfill its functions. According to Art. 6 of the Constitution, it is the federal government that must ensure the security of borders. But if this does not happen, then the state has the right to take over the responsibility for protecting the borders. This is what Texas, which used to be an independent state, did,” the expert said in an interview with RT.

According to Ordukhanyan, other southern states that are dissatisfied with the migration policy of the central authorities may follow the example of Texas.

“They can also ignore orders from the federal government if they conflict with local laws. And this is a more serious situation. A number of states sent troops to help Texas, precisely in order to confront the federal border patrol. And this is the beginning of a more global story, when no one will be able to eliminate the contradictions within America and centrifugal forces will begin to split the United States into parts. Although this does not mean that the United States will collapse tomorrow, the beginning of this process has already been made,” the analyst concluded.
