The Frankfurt FDP is running with the chairman of the Roman faction, Yanki Pürsün, for the mayoral election on March 5 next year.

On Wednesday evening, at a district meeting, the members officially made the 50-year-old member of parliament the Liberal candidate with 88.4 percent.

61 voted for him, eight against.

Pursün said transparency and integrity matter.

"Nobody radiates that like me."

The last time an FDP candidate stood for election in Frankfurt's mayoral election was in 2001. At that time, Hans-Joachim Otto got 1.8 percent.

In 2018, Volker Stein, former FDP parliamentary group leader in Römer and head of regulatory affairs until 2013, achieved 5.9 percent as an independent applicant.

Stein was now the only one who spoke out against running for office.

"People will ask, does he want to do state politics or take on tasks in the city?" Pursün picked up on the remark: Shouldn't he run for office out of concern about being elected?

In this case, he will resign his seat in the state parliament on May 11th.

Apart from Yanki Pürsün, Manuela Rottmann (Die Grünen), Uwe Becker (CDU), Mike Josef (SPD), Daniela Mehler-Würzbach (Die Linke), Andreas Lobenstein (AfD) and Mathias Pfeiffer (BFF) have been confirmed as candidates so far.

In addition, the tram driver Peter Wirth, known as “Bahnbabo”, and the event organizer Maja Wolff have also announced that they will stand in the mayoral election.
