Frankfurt's former mayor Peter Feldmann: The complaint failed

The Federal Constitutional Court did not accept a constitutional complaint from the former mayor of Frankfurt, Peter Feldmann.

Basically, the complaint was not sufficiently justified, said a court spokesman for the dpa news agency.

The judgment is now final with the rejection of the Federal Constitutional Court.

By filing a complaint with the Federal Constitutional Court, Feldmann tried to take action against his conviction for accepting benefits and the rejection of his appeal by the Federal Court of Justice.

He explained at the time that the verdict against him was based on hearsay and that all of the witnesses he had applied for had been excluded.

This needs to be checked.

Fine in corruption trial

In a corruption trial in December 2022, the former mayor was sentenced by the Frankfurt regional court in two cases to a fine of 120 daily rates of 175 euros, a total of 21,000 euros.

Feldmann then resigned from the SPD.

The background to the proceedings was the former SPD politician's close ties to the Workers' Welfare Association (Awo).

One case concerns the employment of Feldmann's then partner in a German-Turkish Awo daycare center, where she received an above-standard salary and a company car "for no objective reason."

The other case is about Feldmann's close relationship with the managing director of Awo Wiesbaden, who, among other things, raised campaign donations for him.

In return, he was said to have behaved “benevolently” towards the social association.

Feldmann was mayor of Frankfurt am Main from 2012 to 2022.

As a consequence of the indictment and the trial, he was voted out of office as mayor in a referendum on November 6, 2022.

In November 2023, the Federal Court of Justice announced that Feldmann's appeal against the judgment had been rejected.
