The opposition offensive against Irene Montero for the

law of only yes is yes

unleashed a huge row in Congress after Vox exceeded all limits with a personal attack against the Minister of Equality.

"The only merit you have is having studied Pablo Iglesias in depth," Carla Toscano's deputy told him.

His words immediately provoked the angry protest of the deputies of Unidas Podemos, PSOE and other groups, interrupting the debate on Budgets for a long time, and led the first vice president of Congress, Alfonso Rodríguez Gómez de Celis, to order the withdrawal of the expression of the Journal of Sessions.

However, when Toscano finished, Montero used her right to reply to intervene and, almost on the verge of tears, made a plea to denounce the "political violence" that had been exercised against her, unleashing a prolonged ovation from the majority of the Chamber, who rose to his feet.

"I want to request that the political violence that is being exercised at this moment in the seat of popular sovereignty be incorporated into the Sessions Journal so that it is not erased. So that none comes after me, so that everyone can remember the violence politics and those who exercise it and so that it can be known that feminists and democrats are more. We are going to stop this band of fascists with more rights," she exclaimed visibly moved.

The response to the long standing ovation for the Minister of Equality also found a reply in Vox.

The parliamentary group tried to envelop Tuscany with applause and defending, in their opinion, the "freedom" to say what they had said.

That was her cry during the first row.

"You are not worthy of being in this Chamber. It is a shame for this country and it is terrible to listen to what you have said," the socialist deputy Laura Berja resumed just after Montero, who wanted to wrap up the minister after the personal attack.

The quagmire into which Vox ended up turning the debate on the budgets of the Ministry of Equality for the year 2023 and the subsequent row eclipsed the demand for responsibilities that the PP had made before all this, which demanded the immediate resignation of the minister for the reduction of sentences that is taking place in application of the

.

"It is an insult to the victims that she continues to sit here," said the

popular

Marta Prohens, who lamented that something as "unusual" as her continuity after that scandal can only be explained by the "arrogance" that Montero has and the "incapacity" of Pedro Sánchez to throw her out of the Government.

The PP accused her of being "incapable of going from the banner to the BOE" and told her that "she better not do anything else" because her laws cause the "greatest setback for women in decades."

"Where would you be if this aberration had been approved by the PP, it would be behind the banner, exalted and asking for resignations," he said about the impact of the law.

"She's not even a feminist, stop doing politics against women and for dignity resign today," closed the PP deputy.

With the controversy at its peak, the Minister for Equality has already used her first intervention in the budget debate to defend the Law on Sexual Freedom.

She praised it because "it guarantees for the first time in Spain an effective and solid protection framework for the rights of women victims of sexual violence," she stressed.
