  • Elections The wave of Ismael, the Big Brother who wants to retire 'Kichi' in Cádiz

The mayor of Cádiz,

José María González

Kichi

, will no longer be a candidate for mayor in the municipal elections on May 28, 2023, thus fulfilling his commitment not to remain in office for more than eight years in a row.

"I am not going to stand for the next elections,"

Kichi

said in a video recorded and broadcast this afternoon on his social networks, and in which, while walking through various venues in the city, sometimes accompanied by his team of councillors, he announces his decision and reviews his trajectory.

He explains that this decision

"is not new"

, because he never doubted that he was going to fulfill his commitment to limit his term, although he has preferred to wait for this confirmation to "not harm the Adelante Cádiz project".

According to González, the Adelante Cádiz party "will continue sailing with a firm course and with me in the crew."

In his speech, he recalled his idea that "politics should not be a job, nor a way of earning a living, but rather an act of

voluntary commitment

", which he also defined as "an act of love and generosity towards others , which, necessarily, has to be

temporary

."

González will not repeat as a candidate for mayor after eight years since he acceded to the baton of command in 2015, after 20 years of

Teófila Martínez

's government .

The mayor celebrates having reversed the municipal debt in these years, having reduced self-promotion, having become "the second city council in Spain in

social investment

", having reduced the time it takes to pay suppliers and having achieved different achievements for disadvantaged groups.

In his speech, he also

apologized for his mistakes

, for not having met expectations, or for not having been able to explain himself, and he thanked those who have helped him "to make what we consider fair a reality" and to demonstrate that "another way of doing politics is possible".

Kichi

has clarified that he will continue to lead the Cádiz City Council

until "the end"

because "as a good Cadiz player I am aware of the importance of the last ten minutes" and has specified that between now and May he will not be in retreat "but giving his best to that Cádiz continue along the path of development and progress".

And he says that he leaves calmly because in his team there is "brilliance, capacity and enthusiasm to illuminate a better future for the city."
