  • Politics The Cádiz Carnival, against Kichi: "Vanity has swallowed you. Retire and leave"

  • Relationships Teresa Rodríguez and 'Kichi': the quiet life in Cádiz of the former Podemos couple

The city of Cádiz is already experiencing

the preludes to its carnival.

Tomorrow, Sunday, the XXXII Erizada Popular will be celebrated in the streets of the La Viña neighborhood, a neighborhood precisely where its former mayor, José María González, Kichi, lives, who will surely

enjoy the carnivals of his city,

but from the second row.

Since leaving office, the former councilor has been seen little, according to what is said in Cádiz, because "

people were not too happy

with his work." Kichi has returned to teaching - "my vocation", he says - in an

"irreversible"

way after the inauguration of his successor, the popular Bruno García. On June 19,

he returned to teaching classes at the Virgen del Carmen Institute,

in Puerto Real. He said that he would not be in charge of the mayor's office for more than eight years and he fulfilled it, which is why he did not appear in the elections on May 28, in which Bruno García obtained an absolute majority.

In his close circle they say that Kichi, who

continues to be active in Adelante Andalucía

, is focused on his work, leads a normal and calmer life, with his partner, Teresa Rodríguez,

former deputy in the Parliament of Andalusia

and former MEP for Anticapitalistas and Adelante. Andalusia, who

has also returned to teaching as a philologist

in another institute in the same town. "The one from Adelante Andalucía. Teacher of the public. La Tere. The girl from the perfumery and 'the black one' of the gang," she defines herself on her Instagram account.

The couple has

two daughters, Aurora (4) and Candela (3)

, who are joined by his two children from his previous relationship.

Although sources assure that

the former mayor "is fine"

and that he wants to lead a completely anonymous life, in his profile on said social network, in which he is active, he continues to present himself as

"a professor of Geography and History.

Mayor of Cádiz. Forward Andalusia". Kichi does not want to talk to the press because, according to what they say, what he is doing now

"has no interest whatsoever,

which is his normal work at the institute and normal life at home and in his usual neighborhood."

And if we talk about normality,

the carnival is part of their life.

Before becoming mayor he was part of the

Jesús Bienvenido troupe,

but it has not been active for some time. This year the author has released a children's troupe. "I don't think he is involved in

participating in any of the carnival,"

they also tell LOC.

But the carnival does remember him. For example, the chirigota Los plácidos Domingo sang to the sounds of

Se fue

by Laura Pausini:

"I no longer see you with the megaphone

in front of the demonstrations or protesting for rental apartments."

Or names with as much prestige as Martínez Ares - the group L

a sheep negra

- or El Selu - chirigota

We won't even feel the hunger

-. The first

gives a warning to Bruno García,

but to do so he seems to remember Kichi saying: "I'm not going to last

eight years like I did with other idiots,

I'm going to be waiting for you with my guitar."

El Selu, on his return to the Teatro Falla in Cádiz, sings that people "can't even see politicians.

How many lobsters do they have to eat

to take home a plate of lentils", without forgetting the criticism of prices. And to Kichi: "A pleasant life is over.

You are no longer going to be the president of your ladder."

The well-known musician Martínez Ares also surprised by singing in Catalan and Spanish to throw poisoned darts at Pedro Sánchez, a performance that has gone viral and widely applauded on social networks:

"By seven votes you have resurrected Franco,

but the seats are stronger for you." "(...)

I'm red, but I don't trust your word,

everyone has what they deserve. What an amnesty, no shit, they don't want to be Spanish, let the corral open now and let them leave."

Despite his new low profile, Kichi probably won't resist experiencing the carnival;

and he will surely do it in disguise.

In 2022, the former mayor chose to pay tribute to the chirigota of Los Cruados Mágicos, and he dressed in this way, with a guy - that's what the group's costumes are called - with a skirt above the knees.

He was accompanied by his entire Government team,

each one dressed in a different costume.

In 2020, just before confinement, there was a carnival, and

he dressed as a potbellied elf

in response to the Sevillian chirigota who

made fun of his weight gain a year before. A year earlier, he chose to dress as a reporter after the

New York Times

chose Cádiz

as one of

the places in the world worth visiting in 2019

. But he also had a tribute from him, since, in 2016, a chirigota dressed up as him and baptized themselves as Los Kichi, parodying him as mayor.
