Ministerial consultations on foreign affairs and defense between Japan and Germany were held in Germany, and they confirmed that they would continue sanctions against Russia and support for Ukraine in cooperation with the international community.

They also shared serious concerns about China's move to strengthen its maritime expansion, and agreed to strengthen cooperation in the area of ​​security.

Ministerial consultations on foreign affairs and defense between Japan and Germany, the so-called 2+2, took place on the night of the 3rd, Japan time, with Foreign Minister Hayashi and Foreign Minister Beerbock in attendance, and Defense Minister Hamada and Defense Minister Lambrecht participating online.



During the talks, Russia's aggression against Ukraine was an act that shook the foundation of the international order, not only in Europe but also in Asia.



In addition, they shared serious concerns about China's move to strengthen its maritime expansion, and agreed to strongly oppose attempts to unilaterally change the status quo by force. We confirmed that we will continue to do so, and shared the view that we will strengthen cooperation in the area of ​​security.



They also agreed to start negotiations on a legal framework to facilitate joint activities between the Self-Defense Forces and the German Armed Forces, and to hold ministerial consultations on foreign affairs and defense once a year, in principle.
