The SBS D forum held face-to-face three years after the corona pandemic.

This year's theme is 'Rewriting Democracy'.

[Park Jeong-hoon/SBS President: It would be no exaggeration to say that our political reality is leading the division of the people rather than healing conflicts.]

Professor Adam Chevorsky, a world-renowned scholar in democracy research, said, “For democracy to work well, To do that, we need a clear election system that fits each country's political system," he said.

[Adam Shevorsky / Professor Emeritus of Political Science, New York University, USA: There are many ways to manage conflicts in our society, but among them, elections are unique in that everyone can participate with the same right.

] He defined politics as 'political tribalism', in which the logic of hostility rather than competition dominates.

As an alternative, he presented politics based on 'public opinion' rather than public opinion.

'Public opinion' is a concept that simply combines individual opinions without verification.

[Yoo Hong-rim/Professor, Department of Political Science and International Relations, Seoul National University: If citizens seriously think and practice the process of discussion and persuasion, politicians will not be able to freely use the rhetoric of 'the will of the people']

A system for this purpose is the 'Preference Voting System' .

and the introduction of a 'final runoff voting system', strengthening the proportional representation system, and revitalizing local political parties.

National Assembly Speaker Kim Jin-pyo also said that he deeply sympathizes with the proposal of the Seoul National University research team, and responded that he would promote a 'national integration-type constitutional amendment' including a change in the power structure.

[Kim Jin-pyo/Chairman of National Assembly: Let's promote a plan to reflect the basic spirit of public opinion politics in our constitution.]

Political reform measures have been proposed amid the criticism that politics, which is supposed to close conflicts and integrate society, has less credibility than in any other field. It is urgent to find and rethink political leadership.
