The preliminary investigation has shown that, according to relatives and doctors, Theodor Engström has a diagnosis on the autism spectrum.

In questioning, they testify about a long-standing contact with healthcare before the murder of psychiatric coordinator Ing-Marie Wieselgren in Almedalen this year.

In February, a few months before the terrorist act, Theodor Engström met his doctor at the adult psychiatric clinic in Kalmar.

The doctor, who estimates that he met Theodor Engström four or five times, says that his patient understood his problem.

In the contact with the doctor, he has stated that he has lived a lonely life without friends.

He is said not to have shown any thoughts of harming others or to have talked about his ideology, despite his previous association with the Nazi NMR.

"Must have happened a lot"

At the same time, the doctor notes that something must have changed since their last meeting.

- A lot must have happened in the last few months.

It's not the same Theodor I've seen in pictures now.

The interrogator also asks what he thought when he was told that it was Engström who was suspected of the knife crime in Almedalen.

- That it was impossible.

That it can't be him.

From the beginning there were rumors and such before it was made public.

I have worked 30 years as a doctor and met so many different patients but I never thought he was capable of doing such a thing.

He was a kind, sick patient.

No irritation during the call.

Never.

He was one of the kindest patients I've had, the doctor replies.

Drugs may have been a trigger

Theodor Engström is also charged with three counts of drug offences.

The doctor considers in the interrogation whether drugs may have played a role in what later happened.

It is currently unclear whether any doctor has made a violence risk assessment on Theodor Engström.

Katarina Howner, an expert in forensic psychiatry, believes that psychiatry needs to improve on violence risk assessments in particular.
