Member of the Federal National Council, Afra Bakheet bin Hindi, suggested that the Ministry of Education introduce capacity tests similar to the Emirates Standard Test (EmSat), to measure the extent to which students acquire moral, religious and cultural values ​​that are in line with the identity of the state, stressing that this procedure would consolidate moral values. And positive attitudes, just like the keenness to measure the cognitive skills and abilities of students.

While the Ministry of Education clarified that it applies a regulation to manage students’ behavior in schools, with the aim of achieving the principles of the Emirati school, which are instilling and strengthening good morals and practicing positive behavior, pointing out that this regulation sets out the mechanisms and controls for behavioral assessment of students on the basis of respect for personality and feelings.

In detail, a member of the Federal National Council, Afra bin Hindi, stressed the need to measure the extent to which school students have acquired positive attitudes, in order to ensure the consolidation of religious, moral and cultural values ​​that are commensurate with society within the country, similar to tests measuring scientific competencies and abilities.

Bin Hindi told "Emirates Today" that the UAE Centennial 2071 is based on four main axes, including education for the future, an axis that is being worked on through continuous work to enhance the level of teaching science and advanced technology among students, especially in the areas of space. And engineering, innovation, medical and health sciences, stressing the importance that this axis also includes the consolidation of positive values ​​and moral trends among students.

She said: "If we want to achieve the goals related to the consolidation of moral values ​​and positive trends, just as keenness is to measure cognitive skills and students' abilities, then the Ministry of Education must introduce ability tests or a means to measure the level of students in acquiring moral values ​​stemming from our religion and culture."

Bin Hindi added: "Although the Ministry of Education's strategic plan for the academic year takes into account the consolidation of moral principles and Islamic values, and seeks to align its strategy with the vision of the Emirates, this does not prevent a noticeable decrease in the number of Islamic education classes for students, which may affect the outcomes of Education, and therefore a mechanism must be developed to measure and evaluate students’ level of acquiring Islamic and moral values ​​and national identity, which ensures that the Emirati school graduate is authentic, as mentioned by the Emirati school guide, compared to the Emirates Standard EmSat test.”

She pointed out that there are schools that no longer teach important subjects, such as the subject of Sunnah and moral education, while the teaching of Islamic education and social studies was limited to one class per week, calling for the need to pay attention to the subjects of Islamic education, moral and social education, and literature.

For its part, the Ministry of Education confirmed that there is a continuous development of students’ levels and skills in order to reach the required level, stressing that there is a code of conduct to be followed, through which students’ behavior is monitored and managed, with the aim of achieving the principles of the Emirati school of instilling and strengthening good morals and practicing Positive behavior, and it applies to all public education institutions from the third grade to the twelfth grade, and to students in continuing education.

In its response to a parliamentary report on the "policy of the Ministry of Education", which was discussed during one of the previous Federal National Council sessions, the Ministry stated that the Student Behavior Management Regulation aims to "build positive behavior among students within the school community, improve and strengthen positive behaviors, and reduce Behavioral violations, creating the appropriate educational and educational environment to enhance the principle of integrated upbringing, applying the principles and culture of encouragement and care in the community to reduce behavioral violations, informing students and parents of their obligations to maintain self-discipline, and providing a controlling reference to deal with students’ behavior, in addition to ensuring the planning and implementation of mechanisms to treat problems. and behavioral violations and their prevention, and finally the rehabilitation of students’ cases, behaviorally and educationally.”

The ministry explained that schools did not stop teaching moral education, but some of them were unable during the previous period to implement practical activities due to the Corona pandemic, which was temporary, pointing out that the study plan is fixed, and there is self-directed education and a model of hybrid education that currently constitutes the general character. education in the country.

The ministry stressed that dealing with students in the event of any of them committing a behavioral violation is based on respect for personality and feelings, according to five main controls, which include “avoiding cruelty, psychological abuse, defamation, insult and sarcasm, and not generalizing the application of procedures to all class or school learners for a mistake committed by anyone.” Students, achieving justice and equality in treatment among students in the school, and caution against applying any penalty to the student without regard to the school’s carrying out and documenting its preventive responsibilities, and maintaining the confidentiality and privacy of the student and not defaming him.

The Ministry of Education confirmed that the Student Behavior Management Regulations set five prohibitions on school staff when they take punitive measures against any student as a result of violating behavior, including the prohibition of: Making fun of him, preventing the student from relieving himself, restricting the student’s freedom or confining him to school, reducing grades in academic subjects or threatening to do so.
