The first 10 years (1971-1981) represented the official launch of the Emirati-Egyptian relations, which extend for many years before that date, but that year witnessed the establishment of the Union of the United Arab Emirates, which Egypt fully supported and supported, as it was quick to recognize it as soon as it was announced and supported it regionally And internationally, considering it a pillar of security and stability, and a new addition in the interest of Arab power.

That historical era established strong bilateral relations, which in a short period were translated into positions and cooperation in all political, economic, cultural, and other fields.

On the political level, the UAE position emerged in 1973 alongside Egypt and supported its right to restore its occupied lands. History records the immortal saying of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, may he rest in peace, in support of Arab solidarity: “Arab oil is not more precious than blood. Arabi".

In the economic field, the two countries signed in 1973 an agreement for scientific and technical cooperation in the agricultural fields, while in 1976 the city of Sheikh Zayed in the Egyptian governorate of Ismailia was opened, which accommodates more than 17,000 housing units, including five old areas built by Sheikh Zayed, and the number of its units reached Residential 4500 units.

During the second decade (1981-1991), the two countries moved their relations to a higher level through the establishment of an organizational entity that oversees the development of their bilateral relationship in all fields, according to a systematic mechanism that takes into account the size of the two countries’ capabilities. In 1988, an agreement was signed to establish the joint higher committee between the two countries. The two countries also signed an agreement on trade exchange, economic and technical cooperation, and the encouragement and protection of investments between the UAE and Egypt.

As for the third decade (1991-2001) of bilateral relations between the two countries, during which the two parties maintained close relations based on mutual respect, appreciation and common interests, which the two sides have always been keen to keep at the best levels and develop continuously.

The agreement to establish the Egyptian-Emirati Joint Business Council in 1993 between the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce and the Federation of Abu Dhabi Chambers of Commerce and Industry is one of the most prominent achievements of that era at the level of bilateral relations between the two countries, which also witnessed in 1995 the establishment of Sheikh Zayed City in Giza Governorate. The Egyptian Museum, with a grant from the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, has an area of ​​38.4 square kilometers, and one of its most prominent distinctive features is a statue of Sheikh Zayed, and is about 30 kilometers from central Cairo.

The bilateral relations between the UAE and Egypt at the beginning of the new millennium - the third decade of relations between the two countries (2001-2011) - took a strategic character, as it became clear the extent of rapprochement and high-level coordination between the leaderships of the two countries in dealing with many sensitive files and issues in the region at the time. Thanks to their wise management and forward-looking vision, they succeeded in maintaining the sovereignty of security and stability and supporting international peace.

In 2008, the UAE and Egypt, represented by the foreign ministries of the two countries, signed two memoranda of understanding on political consultations aimed at strengthening bilateral consultations on regional and international issues of common interest.

The last 10 years expressed the slogan of the two countries' celebrations of the 50th anniversary of the start of their official relations (Egypt and the UAE are one heart), which was expressed by historical positions that will remain engraved in the history and memory of the two brotherly countries.

In the last decade, the Egyptian-Emirati relations have turned into a distinguished model on which Arab relations are based, thanks to privacy and mutual respect under the umbrella of the bonds of brotherhood and friendship that bind the two countries’ leadership and people, and have been reflected in various political, economic, commercial, social and cultural aspects.

In 2013, the two countries signed an agreement to support the Egyptian development program, under which the UAE provided $4.9 billion to implement a range of development projects in Egypt.

In the same year, the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center announced an initiative to finance several projects for Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, whose construction cost is about 250 million dirhams.

In 2015, the UAE presented a new support package worth 14.7 billion dirhams to the brotherly Egyptian people, consisting of two tranches of equal value, one of which is a deposit in the Central Bank of Egypt, and the other for the interest of various projects in various sectors. It provided Egypt during the last two years - at that time - amounting to about 51 billion dirhams.

In 2017, the two countries agreed to form a bilateral political consultation mechanism that meets periodically once every six months at the level of foreign ministers, and the other at the level of senior officials.

In 2019, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi witnessed, at Qasr Al Watan, the exchange of agreements and memoranda of understanding between the UAE and Egypt, aimed at developing the level of joint work and coordination between the two countries.

The year 2022 witnessed the announcement of the integrated industrial partnership for sustainable economic development that brings together the two countries in addition to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, in order to achieve sustainable economic development in five promising industrial fields that are qualified for integration and cooperation, and the allocation of an investment fund of $10 billion to invest in the projects emanating from it.
