The maneuvers with Moscow will last four days and will take place in the Mediterranean.

In a press release, the Algerian Ministry of Defense affirms that a group of Russian military ships are moored in Algeria without specifying the place.

These exercises are carried out within the framework of military cooperation between the forces of the two countries, the ministry added.

Algeria maintains privileged and strategic relations with Russia, especially in the military field.

The exercises currently taking place in the Mediterranean are just one step in a long series of joint military maneuvers inaugurated in 2017 between Algiers and Moscow.

Since then, the strong convergences between the Algerian and Russian armies have continued to progress, especially in terms of interoperability.

Other military exercises will take place next November, on Algerian territory, in Bechar to be precise, a desert region not far from the Moroccan border.

80 Russian soldiers and as many Algerians will then take part in these maneuvers, the aim of which is to fight against terrorist groups in the Sahel.

After the first participation of Algerians in the military games organized by Moscow every year, part of these Russian military competitions took place for the first time, in 2021, on Algerian territory.

These joint military maneuvers are increasingly important.

A year and a half ago, the Algerian special forces went to train in the North Caucasus, precisely in Dagestan.

Last September, around 100 Algerian soldiers took part in the

Vostok 2022 military exercises

, which took place in the far east of mainland Russia.

Exercises involving the closest allies of the Kremlin.
