The Dubai Health Authority revealed that it has developed a plan to transform government and private hospitals in the emirate to become green "environmentally friendly", stressing that it is in the stage of studying the implementation mechanism, and setting the general features of the transformation, to enter into force after its approval.

This came on the sidelines of a press conference held by the authority to announce that Dubai will host the 45th session of the World Hospital Federation Conference, under the slogan “Achieving sustainability and the future of the hospital sector in 2030”, in the presence of more than 1,000 participants, representing more than 60 countries from different continents of the world. It is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the conference, Dr. Ramadan Al Balushi, said that the authority has developed a plan to gradually transform the emirate’s hospitals to become green and “environmentally friendly” in terms of energy consumption and emissions, noting that the features of the transformation are under study, and will enter into force after its completion and approval.

Al Balushi added that the conference, organized by the authority, in cooperation with the World Hospital Federation, will discuss a number of themes related to sustainable health care, the latest global developments related to health care challenges faced by hospitals around the world, how to face the burdens resulting from various diseases, and the application of best practices and innovations. Smart solutions and digital technology in the health sector, to provide sustainable health services to members of society, and to ensure their continuity during and after crises.

For her part, the Vice-Chairman of the Organizing Committee and Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the International Federation of Hospitals Conference, Dr. Farida Al-Khaja, stated that the standards of green hospitals will focus mainly on relying on solar energy as a source of energy, reducing radiation emissions, and using chemicals.

She pointed out that the conference will include more than 30 scientific sessions over three days, in which more than 150 speakers will participate, and will review many innovations and health solutions.
