At 11 o'clock on Thursday morning, Magdalena Andersson met the speaker to hand in her resignation as prime minister.

- I have informed the speaker that if the Moderates should change their mind and want to cooperate with me instead of with the Sweden Democrats, my door is open to Ulf Kristersson.

What I said before the election naturally also applies after the election, says Magdalena Andersson when she meets journalists in the Riksdag's press center after the meeting.

Andersson announced his resignation

Andersson believes that she will now act in such a way that an orderly change of power can take place and says that she will congratulate Ulf Kristersson on the day he becomes prime minister.

The Social Democrats increased their voter support in the election at the same time as they are now losing government power.

In response to the question of what the Social Democrats must do in the future to win elections, Andersson replies:

- It is of course very gratifying that we make a strong choice, but it is not always enough to go all the way home, says Magdalena Andersson.

"No beef with Kristersson"

It was on Wednesday evening, when all the votes were counted, that it was finally clear that Moderate leader Ulf Kristersson's government foundation won the election.

Magdalena Andersson then held a press conference where she announced her resignation.

At the press conference, she describes the roughly nine months she has been in power as "responsible and hard-working".

The day Ulf Kristersson becomes prime minister, she will congratulate him.

- I have no personal beef with Ulf Kristersson, she says.
