“

I renew before you this lifelong commitment to service

,” Charles III said during his first speech as monarch.

The day after the disappearance of his mother, the king spoke during a televised speech, recorded this Friday afternoon.

Previously, Charles III had opened his speech by paying homage to his late mother: “

I speak to you today with a feeling of deep sadness.

Throughout her life, my beloved mother has been an example to me and her entire family.

We owe him a debt, the greatest that any family could owe, for his love, his affection, his example.

The King of England also announced that William would be the new Prince of Wales, and his wife, Catherine Middleton, the new Princess of Wales.

The 73-year-old monarch also expressed his love to Prince Harry as well as his wife Meghan, whose break with the monarchy to settle in California has shaken the royal family.
