The hearing's first topic was gang violence.

Since 2017, 262 people have been shot dead in Sweden, which Magdalena Andersson describes as a "terrible development".

- The whole of Sweden and our whole society can perform better, that's why we have to turn over every stone to break that segregation, says Magdalena Andersson.

She was then pressed about the government's responsibility, where gang violence has increased during the eight years that the Social Democrats have been in power.

- This is one of our absolute biggest priorities.

We must continue on the path we have taken and toughen penalties, hire more police officers, provide more resources and tools to police officers and the entire judicial chain, says Andersson.

"Not done enough"

She believes that the government has taken steps in the right direction, but that more is needed to break the trend.

- We have obviously not done enough to break segregation and stop young people from becoming criminals, says Magdalena Andersson.

The background to the situation is a combination of migration and the fact that Sweden has not had a sufficiently good integration, according to the prime minister.

- We had a stricter migration policy when there was a social democratic government, it was liberalized considerably under Reinfeldt's government, says Andersson but admits that more could have been done even under previous S governments.
