  • The response The PP accuses Sánchez of burning "180 kilos of kerosene" just after inviting the Spanish to take off their tie

Pedro Sánchez has expressed all his support for the negotiations that

Serbia

is holding to become a member of the European Union.

Sánchez, on an official visit to

Belgrade

, was received by the president of the Balkan republic,

Aleksandar Vucic

, who described him as "Serbia's most important friend".

The head of the Executive left no room for doubt in the Spanish position.

"You are part of Europe," snapped the head of the Spanish Executive before a delighted Vucic.

The president encouraged the Serbian leader to continue with the reforms, since the window of opportunity opened by Ukraine is a possibility "to speed up the processes."

Serbia has been negotiating its integration into the EU as a candidate country since 2012.

However, the dialogue has not advanced smoothly due to the absence of changes in aspects related to the rule of law and the suspicion of some member countries.

Of the countries that emerged after the

Balkan

war , only

Croatia

and

Slovenia

have joined the club of 27. Meanwhile,

Montenegro

, Serbia,

Bosnia Herzegovina

and

Albania

(which was not part of Yugoslavia) continue to be stuck in various phases of the adhesion process.

Sánchez is in favor of giving impetus to the integration of all.

The harmony between the Spanish Government and that of the former Yugoslav Republic is close.

Vucic heard from Sánchez some resounding words of support in the conflict that he maintains for the independence of

Kosovo

, which Spain does not recognize: "International law and the territorial integrity of nations must be respected."

Serbia finds in Spain one of the most reliable countries in this regard.

The Spanish and Serbian presidents agreed to improve ties between the two countries.

"Political relations are excellent and economic relations have to catch up," Sánchez said.

"There are numerous Spanish companies that are established in Serbia and we are going to hold a business summit between Spanish and Serbian companies and we are going to sign a bilateral agreement as soon as possible to boost economic relations," insisted the Spanish leader.

Russia's ally

Both leaders held a bilateral meeting in which they discussed the situation of the war in Ukraine.

Sánchez revealed that the Serbian president announced the imminence of the invasion during his official visit to Madrid on February 23, one day before it took place.

Belgrade

is a traditional ally of

Russia

, while Madrid maintains a firm decision to support

Kiev

.

One and the other resolved the issue with a wish that the conflict "end as soon as possible."

Sánchez will continue his visit for four days to the rest of the candidate republics.

In the next few days she will travel to Bosnia, where she will meet with the country's authorities in

Sarajevo

and

Mostar

, to continue, probably, through

North Macedonia

and Montenegro, and finish in Albania.

Sánchez's drive for the integration of the former Yugoslav republics into the EU is part of the Spanish Presidency of the Union, which will take place during the second half of next year.
