The Generalitat is reluctant, for the moment, to resort to the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to extinguish the fires that are devastating the center of Catalonia and whose main epicenter is the fire that has already burned more than 1,600 hectares in the town of Pont de Vilomara, registered in the Bages region.

Pere Aragonès has maintained this afternoon that the Govern "will have no problem asking for help from whomever is necessary", that "no resource will be left unused" and has recalled that the UME has already collaborated on previous occasions with the Autonomous Administration.

To defend his position, the president has also stressed that there are other important fires in other parts of the peninsula that deserve his attention.

The Ministry of the Interior, commanded by Joan Ignasi Elena, has already deployed all its troops and still avoids requesting the collaboration of the Army division specialized in providing support in catastrophic situations despite the simultaneity of fires to which the president has referred of the Generalitat is already taking place in Catalonia.

If the Generalitat does not categorically rule out resorting to the EMU, it is because, as the Minister of the Interior has recognized, the heat wave "is going to be long", "the risk will continue to be high" and these conditions "can favor new fires", with which the premise of Aragonès would be fulfilled to end up asking for support from the Government.

In the same town of El Pont de Vilomara there has been a second fire that has reached the town of Manresa and has forced the confinement of two urbanizations - those of Rocafort and les Brucades -, which has led to the eviction of more than 500 people , who have mostly spent the night at the homes of family and friends waiting for this second focus to be controlled and they can return home.

And this Monday a third fire has been declared in a wooded area of "very difficult access" in the Lleida town of Àger.

The main fire started on Sunday at noon and is still burning virulently.

The work of the Fire Brigade of the Generalitat is currently focused on stabilizing the right flank to prevent the spread of the flames towards the heart of the Sant Llorenç i l'Obac natural park, in which 382 hectares have already been burned.
