The Commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Navy, Ali Reza Tanksiri, said that his forces should be fully alert to confront any "aggression", during an inspection visit to the islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb and Abu Musa, which are disputed with the United Arab Emirates.

"We will teach the enemy and its allies a harsh lesson if they commit any foolishness against our national security," Tansari added, according to what Iranian television reported. He indicated that his country's forces on the three islands and the front lines must be fully alert at all levels, and stressed that Tehran would target without hesitation the center from which any aggression against its security.

He pointed out that the capabilities of neighboring countries are sufficient to ensure the security of the region and there is no need for any foreign presence.

The Iranian leader's statements come in light of mutual threats between Tehran and Tel Aviv regarding Iran's nuclear program.

Israeli Chief of Staff Aviv Kohavi announced - in a speech he delivered on Sunday at the ceremony of changing the commander of the army's Home Front Command - that preparing a military option against the Iranian nuclear program is a moral duty and an important matter for national security, as he put it.

"Moving militarily against the Iranian nuclear project is at the core of our preparations and includes various practical plans," Kohavi added.

In the context, the Israeli army said that the commander of the US Central Command, General Michael Corella, discussed with Chief of Staff (Kochavi) during a visit to Israel yesterday what he called operational issues to confront security threats in the Middle East and the Gulf region.

An Israeli army statement stated that General Corella visited a number of military air and defense bases, and listened to senior officers in the army, the Central Command, and the US joint bodies, about the various Israeli defense and air activities, in addition to ways to enhance joint plans and capabilities.

On the other hand, the head of the Strategic Council for Foreign Policies in Iran, Kamal Kharazi, revealed to Al-Jazeera that his country is on the verge of becoming a nuclear state in the true sense.

Kharazi said that Iran has the technical capabilities to manufacture a nuclear bomb, but he stressed that there is no decision in his country to manufacture a bomb despite the presence of the technical capabilities necessary for that.

The head of the Strategic Council added that Iran had conducted extensive maneuvers with the aim of striking the Israeli depth in the event that its sensitive facilities were targeted.

At the conclusion of the Jeddah Security and Development Summit, which was held in the presence of US President Joe Biden, the leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council and the United States called on Iran to cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency to keep the region free of weapons of mass destruction.

For his part, Israeli caretaker Prime Minister Yair Lapid said that he made it clear to Biden and his team that Israel opposes the nuclear agreement with Iran.

Lapid added - at the beginning of his cabinet meeting - that he had also informed the US president that Israel reserves the full right to freedom of action in confronting the Iranian nuclear project.
