Alikhanov noted that the current situation can be resolved through diplomacy.

“As far as I know, tomorrow Markus Ederer, the EU ambassador to Russia, has been summoned to the Foreign Ministry to Smolenka and the appropriate conditions will be imposed on him,” the governor said.

The head of the Kaliningrad region expressed the hope that, after all, Ederer would “offer some kind of solution for his part and be constructive.”

On June 20, the Russian Foreign Ministry demanded that Lithuania immediately lift the restrictions imposed on the rail transit of part of the cargo to the Kaliningrad region, adding that otherwise the Russian side reserves the right to act to protect its national interests.

On June 17, Lithuanian Railways notified the Kaliningrad Railway of the termination of the transit of a number of sanctioned goods.

The Federation Council of Russia noted that by its decision, Lithuania violates a number of international legal acts that also affect the obligations of the European Union.
