An investigation has been opened by the Saint-Etienne prosecutor's office to determine whether it was an accident or a voluntary act.
The emergency services were immediately alerted by several witnesses who were at the foot of the building.
They were unable to resuscitate the boy despite cardiac massage.
The latter died instantly.
