At the beginning of May, the 14th constituency of the Rhône had suddenly become one of the great curiosities of the 2022 legislative elections. And this because of two parachute candidates as atypical as they are media-friendly, with the young journalist and activist Taha Bouhafs (25 years old ) for France Insoumise (then Nupes) and policeman and youtuber Bruno Attal for Reconquête!.

If the first, accused of sexual violence, quickly left this campaign, the second, who immediately described himself as "a little peacekeeper", went to the end this Sunday.

But this one fell from above, with only 5.38% of the votes collected, very far from a hypothetical place in the second round therefore.

This territory, which includes the municipalities of Vénissieux, Saint-Priest and Saint-Fons, will see Idir Boumertit, Nupes candidate after the withdrawal of Taha Bouhafs (35.76%) and the deputy Together!

outgoing Yves Blein (25.47%).

Yves Blein charges Jean-Luc Mélenchon

“We must now concretize this first step which is a good omen, indicated on BFM Lyon Idir Boumertit, fourth deputy to the town hall of Vénissieux.

Today there is a reserve of votes.

Faced with the Macronist candidate, we want to bring the constituency well to the left.

“The latter notably took advantage of the withdrawal of the PCF mayor of Vénissieux Michèle Picard to spin towards a not so unexpected success, in the middle of the 11 candidacies of the first round.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon had indeed collected 48.79% of the votes during the first round of the last presidential election in Vénissieux, historically a communist stronghold.

Despite this context, Yves Blein (PS in 2012 and LREM in 2017) won in the last two legislative elections.

The outgoing deputy alongside the presidential majority chose Sunday evening to focus his speech on the national issue, at the microphone of BFM Lyon, to try to reverse the trend: "I am delighted that the French have chosen this Sunday the reason and progress rather than mass unemployment and the economic catastrophe that Mr. Mélenchon promises us”.
