The turnout for the June 1 local election was 43.1% as of 3 pm today (1st).

This is a 7.0%p lower turnout compared to the same time zone in Jiseon-dong in 2018.

The National Election Commission announced that as of 3 pm today, 19,103,024 out of 44.3 million 3,449 voters in the 8th National Simultaneous Local Election participated in the voting, recording a turnout rate of 43.1%.

As the counting continues every hour, the gap between the voter turnout and the last local election is gradually widening.

The early voting turnout for this election was 20.62%, which exceeded 20.1% in the 7th National Simultaneous Local Election in 2018.

Therefore, the final turnout was expected to be higher than 60.2% at the time, but the turnout on the day is relatively low.

As it is predicted that it will be difficult to achieve the final turnout of 60%, the National Election Commission and each party are focusing on encouraging voting.

An official from the National Election Commission explained, "It is a branch election that will be held three months after the election, so I think that the interest of voters is relatively low."

As for the low turnout compared to the high advance turnout, it was analyzed that "it is because the early voting is showing the effect of distributed voting of the election day voting."

So far, the region with the highest voter turnout has been Jeonnam and the region with the lowest is Gwangju.

Today's general voter election will be held until 6pm, and those diagnosed with COVID-19 will be held from 6:30pm to 7:30pm.

Voters can vote at a polling place located in their place of residence with identification.

The three terrestrial broadcasters, including SBS, will broadcast live exit surveys for the heads of 17 cities and provinces at 7:30 this evening.
