“Putin stressed that abandoning the traditional policy of military neutrality would be erroneous, since there are no threats to the security of Finland,” the Kremlin’s press service reports following the talks between the leaders of the states.

It is noted that the prospect of Finland's membership in NATO may also have a negative impact on Russian-Finnish relations.

Earlier, Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin said they supported the country's membership in NATO.

During the conversation, Niinistö told Putin that his country intended to join the North Atlantic Alliance.
