Our current production efficiency of real-life 3D models with a resolution better than 3 cm can reach 10 square kilometers, about three to five days (completed).

[Explanation] Since 2008, the Shanxi Provincial Institute of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information has successively participated in and undertaken the National Ming Great Wall (Shanxi Section) resource survey, the 1:500 topographic map surveying and mapping of the key areas of the Ming Great Wall in Shanxi Province, the basic surveying and mapping data of the Great Wall body, and the protection of the Great Wall in Shanxi Province Planning database construction and other projects.

On December 28, the online theme activity "Promoting the Great Wall Spirit and Passing on Patriotic Feelings" was held here.

In the past few years, I have gained a profound understanding of the Great Wall, from knowing the Great Wall to understanding the Great Wall, and then to protecting the Great Wall.

Every brick, every beacon, and every military fort in it embodies the wisdom of the Chinese nation.

[Explanation] The towering Great Wall runs across northern China, like a giant dragon, galloping up and down in the mountains of thousands of miles and the desert of thousands of miles.

The Great Wall of Shanxi is distributed in 8 cities and 39 counties (cities, districts) in the territory, covering 8 historical periods including the Warring States, Han, Northern Dynasties (Northern Wei, Eastern Wei, Northern Qi), Sui, Five Dynasties, and Ming.

The scale of construction of the Great Wall in the past dynasties is especially prosperous in the Ming Dynasty.

The construction types include stone walls, earth walls, brick walls, etc., among which rammed earth plates are the majority.

(We) found that with the natural weathering and man-made destruction, the Great Wall must strengthen its protection. Combining our existing surveying and mapping technology and our drone tilting technology, we hope to establish a digital archive of the Great Wall itself. Through the digital archives, for protection Great Wall provides strong technical support.

[Explanation] Most of the remains of the Great Wall are located in the wilderness area, which is difficult to protect and manage.

At this stage, the institute relies on new basic surveying and mapping technology to conduct accurate data collection, survey and mapping of the Great Walls in Laoniuwan, Laoying Town, Yanmenguan, Xinguangwu and other places, and develop the geography of the Ming Dynasty Great Wall at the county level and the inner Great Wall of the Ming Dynasty in Shanxi. The entity database pilot work will establish a complete and unified geographic entity standard and model standard for the subsequent Great Wall protection plan, so as to accurately monitor the Great Wall’s body disease and surrounding environment changes.

What I am dealing with is LiDAR point cloud (data) processing obtained by drones around the Great Wall, providing a more detailed surface and ground model for the geographical scene around the Great Wall, and providing geographic support for the protection of the surrounding Great Wall.

[Explanation] For more than 2000 years, in the eyes of Chinese people, the Great Wall has been sublimated into a symbol of the will, courage and strength of the Chinese nation.

Guo Haiqing hopes that the use of new surveying and mapping technology, with accurate data and real three-dimensional models, will help the Great Wall to be protected and repaired.

[Concurrent] Guo Haiqing, Deputy Dean of the Second Institute of Surveying and Mapping, Shanxi Provincial Institute of Surveying, Mapping and Geographic Information

We use our drones and tilt cameras, relying on new technology surveying and mapping pilot projects, to build a geographic entity database of the Ming Great Wall at the county level and the Great Wall in Shanxi Province to provide the most basic data support and surveying technical services for the Great Wall protection plan.

At the same time, we hope to tilt the real three-dimensional model, and through display, to publicize the current situation of the Great Wall to the public, as well as some needs and demands that urgently need to be protected.

Hope to gather the power of the whole society to protect the Great Wall.
