“I wrote a letter to the head of the HRC and to the Human Rights Council, but I did not do it for the press,” RIA Novosti quoted Sokurov as saying.

According to him, this letter is not intended for public discussion.

Earlier it was reported that Alexander Sokurov sent an appeal to the head of the HRC Valery Fadeev, in which he said that his friends warn him about the existing threat to life.

At a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and members of the HRC, Sokurov expressed the opinion that the republics of the North Caucasus currently have a pronounced "national character" and suggested letting go of those who do not want to live with Russia.

Putin disagreed with this statement.

The President also told the director that this issue “should be taken very seriously”.
