The spread of infection in Sweden picked up speed at the end of February 2020. The virus spread mainly via travelers who had been to Italy and Austria.

And after week nine, when Stockholm and several other counties had sports holidays, almost all the spread of infection within the country occurred, according to the Corona Commission's second partial report.

The Commission states that the Swedish preparedness was substandard and the handling delayed.

In addition, the Swedish Public Health Agency probably underestimated the extent of the spread of infection in the spring of 2020, says Commission President Mats Melin in Aktuellt.

- The control of the spread of infection was the number who were hospitalized, on IVF and deceased.

But there are things that happen quite late in a disease course.

The Commission has analyzed additional markers.

For example, they have looked at how many people were on long-term sick leave with respiratory symptoms in the spring of 2020.

- Everything indicates that the spread of infection was significantly greater, even during the first two weeks of March, than I think the Swedish Public Health Agency was aware of, says Mats Melin.
